    MEET SETH!

My name is Seth Davis. I'm 39 years old, and I currently live in beautiful Denver, Colorado. I am an adult sleep coach, and I started a business called Sleepably that helps adults and children sleep better. I am happily married and have two energetic young children who keep me busier than I ever thought possible. I began my career as a journalist and then held several jobs in marketing and communications roles, but I'm extremely happy to have found my calling as a sleep coach and business owner.

LA HISTORIA

¿Qué buscabas en la vida?

After I graduated from college and started my first real job as a newspaper journalist, I was excited to launch my career and become a well-known reporter. The journalist's lifestyle seemed like it could provide some excitement and the chance to interact with interesting people doing interesting things.

¿Qué te impedía lograrlo?

Soon after entering the professional world, I began experiencing sleep issues several times each week. I had trouble falling asleep some nights, and trouble staying asleep other nights. I often had stressful problem-solving dreams involving work deadlines and upcoming projects. Weeks of insomnia turned into months, and months turned into years, and all the while I felt increasingly tired and helpless. I knew I wasn't being the best version of myself at work or in my personal life.

¿Cuál fue el detonante del cambio?

I finally decided that I needed to learn how to sleep better naturally. No more sleeping pills, no more worrying about sleep, no more feeling tired and moody. I visited a doctor, who recommended that I look into Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I researched the topic, which then alerted me to the existence of sleep coaches who work one-on-one with people to help them overcome their sleep challenges. I quickly decided that instead of hiring a sleep coach, I would become one and fix my own sleep issues before starting a business to help others.

¿Cómo fue tu viaje? ¿Qué pusiste en acción?

I interviewed two sleep coaches to learn more about the profession, and to discover the journeys they took to enter the profession. They steered me in the right direction and recommended some certifications I could pursue. I wasted no time in registering for the courses and beginning my education. There was a great deal of information to absorb during my studies, and I continue to learn more each day, but it helps that I find sleep fascinating and enjoy every minute of studying it. After I was fully certified, it took persistence to slowly build my business and find clients. But now the persistence is finally being rewarded and I'm able to help more people with each passing month.

¿Cómo crees que sería tu vida ahora si hubieras continuado en la misma dirección?

If I had not committed to improving my sleep, I'm sure that most areas of my life would be less satisfying than they are now. When I was a poor sleeper, I often lacked energy to exercise, had trouble focusing at work, was more prone to mood swings, and spent too much time worrying about sleep. It's depressing to feel like you don't have control over something as important as sleep, and I didn't want to believe that I could still be dealing with that depression years down the road.

¿Cómo es tu vida hoy?

My life is many times better than before I took a deep dive into sleep. I sleep well consistently, my sleep coaching business is growing quickly, and I get to help people discover how to regain their ability to sleep. Now that my sleep is improved, I have more energy and patience to share with my growing family. I still sometimes wish I had been able to fix my sleep much sooner, but then again, I'm grateful to have many well-rested years ahead.

¿Qué le dirías a alguien que lea tu historia?

Poor sleep isn't something you need to tolerate for long. You can make a conscious decision to sleep better, and then you can work toward that goal. If you make positive adjustments to your behaviors, lifestyle, and beliefs about sleep, the improvements you'll experience will be more powerful than any sleeping pill. As someone who struggled with sleep for at least 15 years before finding relief, I can confidently say that you can sleep better when you commit to change.

If you want something you've never had, you've to do something you've never done, by Thomas Jefferson. This quote reminds me that many of the things I want in life aren't going to happen if I don't push beyond my comfort zone and make an effort to try new things.

I've chosen that photo because I have a special place in my heart for San Diego, and I have spent many evenings watching the sunset there. It's always a perfect way to end the day.
